. from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". today's monday, september 22, good morning, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. stories we're following today, developing right now, another person has died in a horrific tour bus crash in delaware. dozens of others were injured. we have a live report coming up. new overnight, three people gunned down in southwest philadelphia. we will tell you how the victims are doing this morning, as police hunt for the gunman. and crews are still trying to get a 82,000-acre wild fire under control in california. those flames have already destroyed ten homes, and forced thousands of people to evacuate. those stories and much more coming up including eagles big win, welcome back, young laid. >> i thank you, this is my tan. >> yes, i see. >> i know, this is some

people's very pale? january, but i'm pumped. great to be back with an eagles victory. >> and an eagles win. let's start the forecasts. >> man, those birds know how to make a sweat. >> i know that's right. so did mother nature, am i right? >> and talk about a nice end, you know, nice final weekend of the summer season, officially wrapping up the summer season today, tonight, autumnal equinox does happen. in other words, we'll see those sun's rays come at the most direct over the equator. we'll talk about that later in the show. however, what it means for us, new season upon us, i think you will like how we kick off fall here. some pretty nice weather news coming up yet again this week. we'll talk about it in the next few. >> developing right now, second person is now dead after bus crash in new castle county, delaware. >> the national transportation safety board's investigating what caused this bus to over turn. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us at christianna hospital in newark, where the injured are

undergoing treatment. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, this investigation continues this morning, into the cause of this crash, as dozens of people remain in the hospital because of it. but we have now learned that this bus was returning from a three day sightseeing tour t had left new york sit on friday, and it was returning from washington, d.c., yesterday, when this crash happened. now it, all happened right here, around 4:30, on route one off ramp to us13 in new castle. police say the 56 year old bus driver from flushing new york was driving around the curve of the ramp when the bus left the road and overturned on to the roof. the bus then continued to slide on its roof down the embankment, until it finally fell to rest on one of its sides. police say the bus driver was properly restrained, only suffered minor injuries, but 49 passengers aboard this tour bus. fifty-four year old woman, from new york sit, chin, pinned under the bus and died on scene, and 30 year old

woman from is cents tan bull, turkey, transport today christianna hospital where she later died. the others were all transported to local hospitals. police say up to five were transported in critical condition, we're told there were at least two children on board as well. first responders encountered a terrible scene, with those in need scattered throughout the crash scene. "eyewitness news" was able to speak with a good samaritan who saw the crash and pull over to help. >> their wounds, almost like a war zone, everyone was so cut up, missing bits and pieces of arm and face and no one on the scene without blood on them except for me. >> now, police say, that bus is owned by amus express, based out of new york city. "eyewitness news" tried to get in contact with that business but our calls were not returned. police say any charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. we're live outside of christianna hospital, jan carabeo, "eyewitness news". >> thank you, right now 4:33,

we want to check back with katie and hear more about this last day of summer. >> pretty nice one overall, good morning, certainly not as warm as yesterday ended up being once the sun had a chance to break through, any cloud cover. right now no sunlight, but "skycam 3" is clear, no worries, no issues, seeing even the tops of the skyscrapers here. seeing nice clearing sky in the wake of frontal boundery that did roll through with what i would say is decent timing. came through generally anywhere between about 9:30 p.m. last night until just after midnight. it is long gone at this point. so we're clearing out nicely. you can see the remnants of it, pulling away up through up-state new york and new england. now that we have a chance to clear out, temperatures will also start to drop off under that clearing sky. so, we basically at this point we think already hit our daytime high, shortly after midnight. but probably try to push back into the low and mid 70s later today. we will try to get there. sixty-six the current temperature at trenton, still the low 70s out in wildwood. as soon as the skies start to

clear out shall everybody starts to drop off bit more readily. sixty-six mt. holly, lower 60s basically the norm through the northern suburbs, as the day progresses here, yes, still may be hands full of clouds here and, there but skies generally clearing out for more and more sunshine, so while it is a little cool as we wrap up the summer season, generally it is cents still a real nice day. little breezy out, there you will notice that, but all-in-all still very pleasant, sunny skies by 3p we should just get you past that 70 degrees mark later this afternoon. vittoria, good morning. >> good morning, katie, everyone, beautiful start toward your monday morning commute. if you are traveling anywhere right now, very quiet, very calm, you can breathe a sigh of relief. traveling on 476, right around the area of the mid-county toll plaza, northbound, southbound commuting not a problem. not only here around the schuylkill expressway, around 95, you just have a lot of good news. as we continue now to the ben franklin bridge, the ben looking great, usually in the westbound direction, we tends to have the construction blocking right lane, that tends to set folks back. not just yet. there is no volume, barely

anyone out there, only about this guy, so still look great headed into philadelphia and new jerseyment speed censors all over, lots of great news, 55 on 95, a breeze there, traveling on the schuylkill you're at 50, 55 as well 476. no problems on the turnpike, 422, 202, however, if you are traveling in delaware, we do have overnight construction ongoing for just about another half hour. so 95 northbound at 202. this would be ongoing again until 5:00 a.m. new jersey looking great. forty-two, 55, 295, everything in the green, and even bet another major problems for mass transit. that is new jersey and dart. nice little start, there erika? >> we'll take it, thank you. new this morning, night shattered by gunfire. philadelphia police looking for two gunmen they say fired 21 shots in the city's kingsessing section late last night. authorities say two people were on a front porch barbequing when the shots rang out. three people in all were injured. two are in critical condition. investigators are checking

surveillance videos and talking with eyewitnesses hoping to id those shooters. authorities say they are hot on the trail of the man they believe ambushed two pennsylvania state troopers over week ago. >> the pocono mountain school district closing all schools again today, due to safety concerns. police released images of ak47 along with magazines and a camouflage bag, they believe left in the woods by the suspect eric frein. authorities continue to focus their efforts on barrett and price townships in monroe county, as well as the delaware state forest area. >> up until now, his advantage has been that this is his backyard, and he knows this rugged terrain. our tactical operations people now also know his backyard, the area he once felt safe in. we are pushing him hard. he is no longer safe and i am confident that he will be apprehended. >> frein is accused of murdering pennsylvania state police corporal brian dixon and injuring trooper alex

douglas. two men are killed and two other criticsly injured in a shooting outside after unlicensed bar in north philadelphia. >> that bar was operating inside a former day care center on the 5600 block of north park avenue. shell casings littered the grounds and nearby car windows were shot out. police say it started with a argument. so far no arrests have been made. parishioners from around the region gather to protest against the archdioces of philadelphia's plan to close several churches. they met at the cathedral at saints peter and paul before and after sunday night's mass. protesters demand to know why the archdioces wants to close churches that they say are viable and financially secure. locally, more than 40 catholics churches have closed or merged in the past year. happening today, family and friend gather for the funeral after elderly woman who died during a house fire in south philadelphia. flames tore through a row home on the 2000 block of south marshall street

september 12th killing elizabeth little. funeral is her just cents start 9:00 a.m., fifth and snyder, fire investigators believe smoking may have contributed to the fire. the two candidates for pennsylvania governor have their first debate tonight at the chamber of commerce dinner in hershey. the latest quinnipiac university pole shows democratic challenger tom wolf, 24 points ahead of republican incumbent tom corbett. likely voters backed wolf on the race's two biggest issues: jobs and education. an estimated 600 nurses are walk the picket line at crozer-chester medical center. nurse haves been working without a contract since june. they are unhappy over what they say is the company's unfair labor practices and ongoing bad fate bargaining. key issues include pay cuts, pension, and staffing. >> normally you would have a nurse-patient ratio. that nurse-patient ratio is different for different units. critical care, it is usually two to one, sometimes one to one.

firefighters near sacramento california still battling to contain enormous wild fire. >> dubbed the king fire, it is estimated to be 82,000 acres in size, and only 17% contained. the fire already destroyed ten homes and thousands more. crews are stepping up their efforts on the northern line, trying to keep the flames from advancing even further.

last week police arrested a 37 year old man for purposely start that fire. well, the man apparently caught on camera breaking into the white house is expected to face a judge today. the incident happened friday. police seo march gonzalez managed to scale a fence and make it into the executive mansion, armed with a knife. the first family wasn't there at the time. the army says gonzalez is veteran who served in iraq. right now, 4:43, andy a double take when i saw the forecast. >> i heard couple say the same thing to me this morning, wait, is that right? trust me, no typos, i promise you, this is looking like another real quiet week. i'm like sweet. sit back, widdle the thumbs little bit. not that good. we have the potential for bit of wet weather later in the week. but generally speaking the entire week for the most part is looking really really pleasant, with a few minor tweaks as we go forward. and just little bit after uphill climb on the thermometer, basically every

single passing day. today will end up being the cool else, storm scan3, shows what's up, just had cold front, slice through the area, and it brought with it really a very lack-luster batch of precipitation, just enough to leave couple of damn many roads behind. long gone at this point. see it rotating away at this point. and, the skies will clear, as a result. but what does happen here, is that norm west breeze kicks in, so you will notice that, it will feel so much more like fall outside today, than yesterday did, so we had real nice summary feel for the last weekend of summer, and now that we're wrapping up the final daylight hours of the summer season, and looking ahead to autumn, it will start to feel a lot more like that upcoming season. so again, tomorrow we kick off the season in full swing, beautiful weather, wednesday the clouds are likely going to thicken, however, because of this. we start to see some moisture creeping in from the south, and right now, it does look like we've got at least chance for some showers, if not some steady rain, especially from philadelphia on south. so we have to keep close watch on the leading edge of that,

maybe we get completely clipped by it, don't have to deal with it at all, but it is a possibility. sunshine meantime today, we likely get you back into the low 70s at some point this afternoon, but already hit the high of 73, it happens shortly after midnight. mainly clear, cool, tonight, in the city of philadelphia, it is 51. so you can imagine what the suburbs will be like, easily into the four's, so it will be kind of chilly night, may want to think about wearing the spet pants head today bed. tomorrow looks beautiful, temperatures go on nice uphill climb. right now thursday one and only day could bring some wet weather. ukee, over to you. thanks, katie. in sports the eagles now three and zero on the season after nail biter against washington at lincoln financial field. desean jackson got into the end zone, against his former team, the third quarter, thanks to some miss coverage, missed tackle. but in the fourth, nick foles would hit jeremy maclin for the 27-yard score. the eagles beat washington, wow, in a thriller, 37 to 34. yesterday's battle

climbed 14 points friday, which means it closed at another record high. this week, we will be getting a lot of economic data about the housing market. invest remembers also watching alley bad a, the chinese e-commerce power house, made history in its first day as a publicly traded company. at friday's opening price, investors valued the company at $228 billion. so that's more than amazon, ebay, and even facebook. the company's ceo, jack ma, said he hopes alibabba will be bigger than wal-mart. so this is definitely one to keep our eyes on. >> that's for sure. jill, people lined up for days to get their hand on the new iphone six and six plus. so tell us, how durable is this bad boy? >> well, a new study looks at which smart phones are the most durable, and it found that apple's new iphone six and iphone six plus are stronger and less likely to break than previous models and also better than the samsung galaxy s5.

>> good morning, still great ride this morning, great way to come off a weekends, if you are headed on 95 there is shot here, right around broad street, definitely a different scene than it was yesterday after the birds game. ninety-five is definitely wide open this morning, with no problems, and not only around this section hereof south philadelphia, it is also cents in delaware county, maybe if

you are headed out toward bucks county, northeast philadelphia, 95, just moving beautifully. traveling in new jersey, 42 freeway looking pretty good, sparkling every headlights here, that would be the northbound side of the 42 approaching 295. no major delays just yet. but we tends to see rush hour daily. so maybe traveling around six, 6:30, where you will see the bulk that far delay. traveling in the southbound direction of the 42, no problem. if you are headed anywhere right now, i would say that your average speed would be in the 50's, as predicted here, as well. fifty-five on 95, same on the schuylkill, same 476, no problems. we do however have no construction northbound side of 95 at 202, ongoing for just about six minutes or so, but give or take little bit. but katie, you're spoiling us with this weather, and i'm all about it. >> i think everybody can get behind this pattern, right? even with a couple of minor hiccups along the way generally, we keep really nice weather in this forecast, and, every day does have little minor tweak to it, more than anything, you will notice that with every passing day, temperatures go on uphill

climb. today the bigger story that we just had cold front move through. you can see, the row treat of the little speckles of green on the very front end of the loop there. and the temperatures having completely responded to the fact that some cooler air is here. but, we will talk about that, currently across portions of the live neighborhood network most of are you into the lower mid 60s, couple of choice spots like bensalem has since sort of dropped to the corner. but later on today, we will likely get you into the low 70s, but we basically already hit the daytime high. it happened right before the front crossed through completely. and now we're sort of just going to catch up with the cooler air mass, so tomorrow, and specially tonight, looking awfully cool. but tomorrow is the first full day of the fall season, so it will be very happen pro poe for us to feel that little taste of fall, the sun will shine it, will feel real crisp outside. tomorrow if there ever was a day to have your jacket ready to go, that will be it, but we will again continue to warm things up for you as the week progresses, ukee, back to you. >> here is a look at stories our sister station "kyw news
